7. Setup

Overview

The hardware consists of a number of support components that must be installed before training can commence. This section covers the placement and installation of all tracking hardware.

 

Setup sequence

Setup the FLAIM Trainer system in the sequence detailed below.

Refer to the Safety Guides for important safety information.

 

Part 1: Securing the hose reel

Important: The hose reel delivers forces that are equivalent to real world hose forces. It is essential the hose reel is adequately secured to avoid possible injury when in operation. The user should also be prepared and supported for the force to be exerted when operating the branch / nozzle.

Complete the following steps to secure the hose reel:

1.

Remove the hose reel from Case 1.

2.

Place the hose reel in the centre back of the training space.

3.

Secure the hose reel:

Permanent: Use the supplied 4 x eyelets, plastic spacers and screws to secure the hose reel. You will need to use a Phillips screwdriver or a power drill (not supplied) on a low speed setting to secure the hose reel.

Removable: Use the supplied 4 x eyelets and rope to secure the hose reel. The eyelets can be installed in various positions.

4.

Check the hose reel to ensure it is secure.

 

Part 2: Setting up the instructor viewing hardware

Complete the following steps to set up the instructor viewing hardware:

1.

Remove the HDMI cable from Case 1.

2.

Connect the HDMI cable to a TV / display (not supplied).

Note: Use the HDMI F to F adaptor to connect to a second HDMI cable (not supplied) if required.

3.

Connect the HDMI cable to the side of the Hose Reel.

4.

Turn on the TV / display.

5.

Select the correct TV / display input source.

 

Part 3: Powering on the hose reel

Complete the following steps to power on the hose reel:

1.

Remove the supplied 2 x hose reel power cable and 2 x hose reel power supply from Case 1.

2.

Plug each hose reel power cable into a separate hose reel power supply.

3.

Insert both hose reel power supply connectors into the hose reel.

Important: Ensure the power cables are pushed all the way in.

4.

Plug both hose reel power cables into a wall socket or power board.

Turn on the wall socket or power board.

6.

Press the System Power button.

Part 4: Connecting the tracker to the branch / nozzle

Complete the following steps to connect the tracker to the branch / nozzle:

1.

Remove the rigid hose fitting from Case 2.

2.

Insert the rigid hose fitting into the end of the hose reel coupling.

Push it all the way in.

3.

Remove the branch / nozzle from Case 1.

4.

Thread the branch / nozzle onto the hose reel coupling.

5.

Remove the branch / nozzle tracker from Case 1.

6.

Attach the branch / nozzle tracker to the front of the branch / nozzle.

The branch / nozzle will be automatically activated.

Important: The branch / nozzle contains 2 x AAA batteries. Remove the branch / nozzle tracker and store it separately when not in use. This will optimise the branch / nozzle battery life.

7.

Remove the controller from Case 1 and set aside.

Part 5: Setting up the VR headset

Complete the following steps to set up the VR headset:

1.

Remove the VR headset from Case 1.

2.

Fit the VR headset.

Tip: Place the VR headset over your eyes then slide it over the back of your head.

3.

Press and hold the VR headset power button for 5 seconds.

4.

Look directly at the floor whenever the moving triangle image is displayed as this is essential for accurate floor height calibration.

The VR Headset will complete its start-up sequence. The start-up sequence is complete when the FLAIM Lobby is visible in the VR Headset.

Tip: If you wish to re-centre the position of the VR headset:

  • Short press the power button to put the headset to sleep,
  • Move yourself to the correct position, then
  • Short press the power button again.

Important: If the start-up sequence is not successful (i.e. FLAIM Lobby is not visible), the Select Streaming PC system message will display. Refer to the Troubleshooting and support article for further instructions.

5.

Slide the VR headset to position it above your eyes.

6.

Short press the branch / nozzle tracker power button.

The branch / nozzle tracker will power on and the status indicator light will flash blue, then turn green.

Important: If the status indicator light is flashing red, this indicates the branch / nozzle tracker battery life is low. Refer to the Know the equipment article for battery charging instructions.

7.

Short press the controller power button.

The controller will power on and the status indicator light will flash blue, then turn green.

Important: If the status indicator light is flashing red, this indicates the controller battery is low. Refer to the Know the equipment article for battery charging instructions.

8.

Pick up the branch / nozzle and the controller, move them around to ensure they’re tracking within the virtual environment.

Important: Refer to the Troubleshooting and support article if the branch / nozzle or the controller is not tracking.

9.

Set the branch / nozzle and the controller aside in readiness for conducting the training session.

10.

Take off the VR headset and set aside in readiness for conducting the training session.

 

Part 6: Setting up the heat suit and SCBA set

Complete the following steps to set up the heat suit and SCBA set:

1.

Remove the heat suit from Case 2 and set aside.

2.

Remove the SCBA set and SCBA battery (where supplied) from Case 2.

3.

Insert the SCBA battery into the lower half of the SCBA cylinder and set aside. (Only supplied in Australia, refer to the Batteries article for specifications)

4.

Remove the half face mask and lung demand valve from Case 2.

5.

Insert the lung demand valve hose into the SCBA airline.

When it is all connected it will look as follows:

6.

Remove the FLAIM Trainer cases from the training space and set aside to avoid any potential trip hazards.

The setup is now complete.
