5. Setting up the FLAIM Extinguisher

Setup sequence

Setup the FLAIM Extinguisher in the sequence detailed below.

Refer to the Safety Guides for important safety information.

 

Step 1: Turn on the HDMI receiver

The FLAIM Extinguisher Instructor Viewing System allows the trainer and others in the room to view the VR headset screen. This is displayed on a TV/ projector (not included).

Complete the following steps to turn on the HDMI receiver:

1.

Remove the HDMI receiver or FLAIM receiver (depending on what is in your box) and HDMI extension cable from the case.

2.

Connect the HDMI extension cable to the HDMI end of the HDMI receiver/FLAIM receiver.

Note: Use the HDMI F to F adaptor to connect to a second HDMI cable (not supplied) if required.

3.

Plug the HDMI end into the HDMI port on the television/projector.

4.

Plug the USB lead into the USB port on the television/projector.

5.

A white light will illuminate on the HDMI receiver once powered.

Important: Certain TVs, monitors, or projectors might not provide sufficient power through their built-in USB port. If the indicator light is off, it probably means the USB port doesn't have enough power. In such cases, please use the provided international adaptor plugged into a power outlet.

 

Step 2: Select the input source

Complete the following steps to select the input source.

1.

Turn on the television/projector.

2.

Select the source on the television/projector.

The 'is ready to connect' screen should display on the television/projector.

Step 3: Set up the extinguisher bottle

Complete the following steps to set up the extinguisher bottle:

1.

Remove the extinguisher bottle and trigger assembly from the case.

2.

Screw the trigger assembly onto the extinguisher bottle.

Important: Take care when assembling to prevent cross-threading.

3.

Remove the hose tracker from the case.

4.

Clip the hose tracker onto the end of the trigger assembly.

5.

Orientate the hose tracker with the bulb facing upwards (vertical).

Step 4: Set up the VR headset

Complete steps 1 to 4 to install the battery (if not already in the VR headset) and steps 5 to 8 to set up the VR headset.

1.

Remove the VR headset and VR headset battery from the case.

2.

Single press the power button on the VR headset battery to check the power level.

Important: If one status indicator is flashing white, this indicates the VR headset battery is low. Refer to the battery charging instructions in the Know the equipment article.

3.

Remove the magnetic back pad.

4.

Install the headset battery by aligning the slots, and then push to click into place.

5.

Fit the VR headset.

Tip: Loosen the adjustment knob and place the VR headset over your eyes, then slide it over the back of your head.

6.

Press and hold the VR headset power button.

7.

Look directly at the floor whenever the moving triangle image is displayed.

Important: This is essential for accurate floor height calibration.

The VR headset will complete its start-up sequence. The start-up sequence is complete when the FLAIM Laucher is visible in the VR headset.

8.

Lift the VR headset above your eyes.

 

Step 5: Power on the controller tracking system

Complete the following steps to power on the controller tracking system:

1.

Holding the extinguisher bottle, short press the highlighted buttons to wake up the hose tracker and trigger assembly.

The hose tracker/trigger assembly will power on and the status indicator light will flash blue, then turn green.

Important: If the status indicator light is flashing red, this indicates the hose tracker / trigger assembly battery is low. Refer to the battery charging instructions in the Know the equipment article.

2.

Fit the VR headset over your eyes.

3.

Pick up the extinguisher assembly. Move the hose around to ensure that the hose and bottle are tracking within the virtual environment.

Tip: You will know this is working as a laser will appear emitting from the hose tracker.

 

Step 6: Set up streaming / casting / projection onto the screen

Complete the following steps to set up streaming to a television / monitor / projector:

1.

In the headset, use the hose tracker to select the Cast button from the toolbar.

2.

Select the FLAIM device by clicking on its name (e.g., FLAIMXXX).

3.

You should see ‘Connecting to this display’ on your television or projector. It may take 10-20 seconds to connect.

4.

FLAIM Extinguisher will now be streaming to the television. monitor or projector. It will show the VR headset view.

Note: It will only stream while the headset is placed on your head. The television or projector screen will pause when the headset is removed.

5.

If the overlay remains visible, short press the trigger assembly power button once to close the menu.

Step 7: Connect to Wi-Fi

Complete the following steps to connect to Wi-Fi:

1.

In the headset, use the hose tracker to select the Wi-Fi button from the toolbar.

2.

Select the Wi-Fi network to connect to, then select the password box to open the virtual keyboard.

3.

Use the virtual keyboard to enter the password, then press the enter key to fill the password box.

4.

Select ‘Connect’ and wait until the message below the selected network shows ‘Connected’.

5.

Use the hose tracker laser to select the ‘X’ button and close the overlay.

Step 8: Floor Height Calibration

To ensure a high quality user experience, the VR headset should be calibrated with the correct floor/height settings prior to use.

  1. Select the Floor Height button on the Launcher toolbar.
  2. Follow the prompt to look towards the ground.
  3. A message will eventually appear to confirm that the height has been readjusted.

 

Step 9: Launch the FLAIM Extinguisher

Complete the following steps to launch FLAIM Extinguisher:

1.

In the FLAIM Launcher app library screen, use the hose tracker to select Extinguisher.

Step 10: Setting up the user

Complete the following steps to set up a user in preparation for conducting a training session: 

1.

Fit the VR headset.

Tip: Place the VR Headset over eyes, then slide it over the back of the head.

2.

Tighten the VR headset using the adjustment knob at the back of the headset and on top using the strap.

3.

Instruct the user to look directly at the floor whenever the moving triangle image is displayed.

Important: This is essential for accurate floor height calibration.

The VR headset will complete its start-up sequence. 

4.

Adjust the headset lens spacing using the dial for better experience (if required).

Step 11: Enter training details for record capture (Capture users only)

To ensure that the training results are recorded in Capture, complete the following steps to enter your training key for the session. If you don’t have a training key, speak with your Organisation Administrator.

1.

Select the Profile icon (head silhouette).

The User Onboarding screen will display:

2.

Select New User.

3.

Enter the Training Key.

4.

Select the Categories tab.

You will be returned to the Categories tab.

 

Step 12: Select and run a scenario

Complete the following steps to select and run a scenario:

1.

Launch the FLAIM Extinguisher.

The following screen will display:

2.

Select Categories.

3.

Select the preferred category (e.g., Business).

A list of scenarios for the selected category will display.

4.

Select the preferred scenario.

5.

Get the user to step into the centre of the circle with the same orientation as shown.

The scenario will load in readiness for commencing the learning experience.

Important: When selecting in and out of a scenario, you will need to return to the point of origin.
