Capture Updates

The following data are now being recorded in Simulation Records and are available in the FLAIM Capture dashboard (for organisations with a subscription to Capture):

Learning data Description Message

Maintained safe distance from fire

To ensure safe operation of the fire extinguisher, the operator should maintain a distance of at least 1.8m from the base of the fire.

Positive Message: In order to ensure safe operation of a fire extinguisher, the operator maintained a distance of at least 1.8m from the base of the
fire when commencing use of the extinguisher.

Negative Message: The operator did not maintain a safe distance of 1.8m when commencing use of the extinguisher. This is considered an unsafe practice.

Maintained effective distance from fire

To facilitate effective use of the extinguisher the operator should maintain a distance of less than 2.4m from the base of the fire.

Positive Message: In order to ensure safe operation of a fire extinguisher, the operator maintained a distance of at least 1.8m from the base of the fire when commencing use of the extinguisher.

Negative Message: The operator did not maintain a safe distance of 1.8m when commencing use of the extinguisher. This is considered an unsafe practice.

Aimed at the base of the Fire

The operator should aim at the base of the fire to facilitate effective extinguishing.

Positive Message: The operator commenced use of the extinguisher by aiming at the base of the fire.

Negative Message: When commencing use of the extinguisher, the operator should aim at the base of the fire. In this scenario the operator did not aim at the base of the fire when commencing use of the extinguisher.

Utilised sweeping motion


During the use of the extinguisher the operator must demonstrate a sweeping side to side motion.

Positive Message: A sweeping motion was used whilst operating the extinguisher.

Negative Message: The operator failed to utilise a sweeping motion during the use of the extinguisher.

The fire was successfully extinguished

 

The user extinguished the fire before the extinguisher ran out.

Positive Message: The fire was successfully extinguished using the available extinguisher.

Negative Message: The operator was unable to extinguish the fire using the available extinguisher.

Avoided Smoke Inhalation

 

The user did not actively enter the mass of smoke emitted from the fire.

Positive Message: The user did not actively enter the volume of smoke emitted from the fire.

Negative Message: The user entered the volume of smoke emitted from the fire

Appropriate Extinguisher Selected

 

The user selected an extinguisher that is considered acceptable for the class of fire. This does not include those considered to have limited use on the class of fire.

Note: This would only be utilised in scenarios where there are multiple selections of extinguishers and no other extinguishing method such as fire blanket or dump system.

Positive Message: An extinguisher medium was selected that was appropriate for the class of fire.

Negative Message: The extinguisher selected was not appropriate for the class of fire presented in the scenario.

 

Safe Positioning

 

The operator placed themselves between the exit and the fire when commencing the fire attack.

Note: This will only apply to scenarios where there is an obvious exit presented to the student.

Positive Message: The operator positioned themselves between the fire and the exit when commencing fire attack. This ensures a safe exit path is maintained.

Negative Message: The operator did not position themselves between the fire and the exit when commencing fire attack. This is necessary to ensure that a safe exit path is maintained.
